In 2015, Roaring Fork School District — which has about 900 full-time employees and covers Glenwood Springs, Carbondale, Basalt — passed a voter-approved bond for capital construction and improvements. $15 million was allocated and used to build 66 rental housing units. The staff housing program is part of the district’s effort to make living in the Roaring Fork Valley more affordable for teachers and other staff members. The district sets rental rates through a sliding scale based on income. Roaring Fork has also collaborated with Habitat for Humanity so that staff members have a better shot at homeownership.
